Bees are insects which are regarded as the most beneficial species because of their ability to pollinate plants, produce honey and bee’s wax. The bee is considered a pest when it starts to build nests in the wrong place! The bees can establish nests in vents, attics, crawlspaces or hollow walls.
 

To protect the nest the bee uses its sting which produces a very painful, red and itchy swelling that lasts for few days. Unlike most other stinging insects, a honey bee can only sting once since it loses the stinger imbedded in the victim and dies. Some people may have an adverse reaction if they are stung. Symptoms can include difficulty in breathing, dizziness and nausea; and medical attention may be required.

Bees are a common problem during summer. During winter, bees survive by huddling together forming a tight warm cluster. During the year, new queens are produced and the old queen and a number of worker bees leave the hive to "swarm."

Swarming is the process of searching for a new home. If the swarm settles in a place where bees are not welcome, such as the wall of a house, then they become pests. There is a lower risk of being stung around a swarm because it is a period of vulnerability and the colony has no hive or honey to protect.

Control of Bees

The key to controlling bees is to eliminate the nest. A pest control professional or beekeeper may be needed to address serious infestations. Caution should be maintained at all times.  There are many pesticides on the market. Again, it is best to leave it up to the pest control experts. This requires the products to be used as directed, knowledge and skill about bees

Once the bees have been trapped or killed the nest itself should be removed. The honey and beeswax will attract other insects and pests.
If you have lawns, with flowers, clovers; wear shoes, to prevent stepping on the bee. Bee swarms should be picked up before they start to establish a nest in an undesirable location.
This is best left for the pest control experts, who will remove swarms safely.
